Wild Waterfall – a check dam on Łomnica in Karpacz. Łomnica is a small river, especially in its upper section. However, the steep gradient (927 meters over a distance of approximately 19 km) and its location at the bottom of a large valley with steep slopes causes it to rise rapidly during heavy rains or snowmelt, and the swollen waters carry large quantities of stones and trees. In the 19th century, three times the river's floods caused significant losses. In 1816, the river swelled as a result of a cloudburst. Flood losses in Miłków and the rest of the Jeleniogórska Basin amounted to over 109 thousand thalers. In 1844, a wave carrying ice floes, stones and trees, caused by an avalanche descending into Wielki Staw, destroyed a mill in Karpacz.
