Part of Tatra National Park
Smoking Water – a waterfall on the threshold by which Upper Czarnostawiański Basin drops to Black Lake beneath Rysy in the Polish Tatras. The falling water stream is high and narrow. The name of the waterfall comes from the fact that sometimes the wind scatters it, and then it looks as if the waterfall were smoking. Air currents lift the dispersed water upward, against gravity. In winter, dangerous avalanches fall from the threshold. Water from the waterfall flows in a narrow stream in a northerly direction, toward Morskie Oko, seeping into Zadni Piarg.
