Barrel Oak – an oak growing in the Białowieża Forest, which has reached the largest trunk circumference (at a height of 130 cm from the base – 760 cm, height over 30 m). At the end of the 80s of the twentieth century, the condition of the tree was quite good – practically all the branches in the crown were covered with leaves. A sharp collapse in the tree's vitality occurred at the beginning of the 90s. The tree is dead today – it withered in 1992, the trunk is now largely devoid of bark. The name comes from the barrel-shaped shape of the trunk. Probably the deformation of the lower part of the trunk was caused by a fungus – oak oak beetle.
