Peña Karria is the signature summit of Valderejo Natural Park, a classic-style via ferrata reached via a 45 minute to one hour approach hike from the village of Arroyo de San Zadornil, on the Burgos-Álava border. Unlike commercial ferratas with turnstiles and tickets, this one is old-school: chains and iron pegs bolted into the rock decades ago, climbed at your own risk with no entry fee or booking system. After the equipped section you cross an exposed ridge over 200 m long before finishing with a genuinely impressive 40 m rappel back to the ground, with views opening up over the natural park's forested valleys the whole way. The full outing takes 5-6 hours and is rated grade II, moderate, roughly K3+, but treat that rating with caution: some of the older chains and cables have questionable certification, so bringing your own via ferrata set, helmet and backup rope know-how is strongly advised rather than optional. It's doable year-round, but the ridge and rappel are exposed to wind, so check conditions before committing. The route is unmarked as a "tourist" attraction and gets far fewer visitors than Sobrón, so don't expect signage or rescue infrastructure nearby: this is one for people comfortable route-finding and self-sufficient in the mountains.
