Nendaz, Switzerland
Located near the Col des Gentianes in the 4 Vallées region of Switzerland (accessible from Verbier and Nendaz), the Via Ferrata des Gentianes sits at an impressive altitude of nearly 3,000 meters. Built into the Monts de Cion, this high-alpine route features a stark, dramatic mineral landscape and is split into two distinct paths that share the same descent line. The Edelweiss (blue) route is accessible to many (including children) and the scenic route serves as an approachable introduction to high-altitude climbing, offering stunning panoramic alpine views. The Androsace (red) route is demanding and features athletic, steep, and slightly overhanging rock pillars that will heavily test your upper body strength. It includes varied technical obstacles, a 28-meter Nepalese bridge, and tricky lateral traverses before looping back to meet the descent trail.
