Located in the heart of the Flemish countryside, the old branch of the Lys (locally known as the Oude Leiearm) in Bavikhove is a serene remnant of the river's original, winding path. Before the Lys was straightened to accommodate larger ships, these meandering curves defined the landscape. Today, this specific branch serves as a peaceful escape and a haven for biodiversity. Unlike the canalized main river, this "dead" arm has a very slow current, making it a perfect habitat for water birds, dragonflies, and rare riparian plants.
