The Naturfreunde Klettersteig-Garten Weichtalhaus is a compact multi-route climbing facility and training center right at the Weichtalhaus mountain hut (588m) in Austria's Höllental near Reichenau an der Rax. What makes it distinctive is that it functions as a ferrata park offering five separate via ferrata routes of varying difficulty, from easy beginner routes (B/C grade) to the challenging Sport Direkt (E/F), which ranks among Lower Austria's hardest ferratas. The facility is designed for groups, training, and testing yourself across multiple difficulty levels without committing to a full mountain objective. It's an ideal backup when weather on the Rax turns poor, and it's literally a five-minute walk from the hut parking lot. Each route is short, with the entire climbing garden reachable in 35 minutes at most (60 meters of climbing, minimal approach and descent). The five routes let you sample everything from a B/C scramble to an E/F death wish on Sport Direkt, making it perfect for learning your limits on a single afternoon or for mixed-ability groups to split up and do separate routes. The facility also includes 23 rock climbing routes (6-20m, mostly grade 7), so climbers can try traditional rock alongside protected ferrata. Conditions are good year-round; the low elevation means it's rarely snow-covered. Key advantage: if the Rax main mountain routes are fogged in or dangerous, you can still stay dry and productive here.
